Eisenwerk Brühl demonstrates climate-friendly use of combustion engines by switching to Neste MY Renewable Diesel™ (HVO100)
We are now refueling our internal fleet with Neste MY Renewable Diesel™, also known as HVO 100. Depending on manufacturer approval, this fuel can be used in diesel vehicles without conversion and is compatible with the existing filling station infrastructure. It is a synthetic high-performance fuel that is produced from renewable raw materials such as used cooking oils.
By using renewable diesel, greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced by up to 90 % compared to fossil diesel. In addition, the fuel burns much cleaner and leaves considerably less impurities in the engine.
Our fleet comprises 56 forklift trucks, 4 trucks and some construction machinery, with which we consumed 580,000 liters of conventional diesel in 2023. By replacing it, we will save around 1700 tons of CO2 per year in the future.

By converting our fleet to HVO, we are sending out a clear signal that our combustion engines can already make a significant contribution to reducing emissions if they run on the right fuel. HVO represents a sustainable alternative that must go far beyond a temporary solution. We have always taken the view that the problem is not the combustion engine itself, but the fossil fuel. And it looks like the EU is now also changing its thinking in this direction.
Even though HVO 100 is currently still around €0.25 more expensive than conventional diesel, we believe that these additional costs are justifiable in terms of climate protection. Eisenwerk Brühl is involved in various development projects to replace fossil fuels in the production process with climate-friendly substitutes that can be used in a technically sensible and economical way.
