Sustainability

Taking responsibility

Sustainable management, climate and environmental protection are challenges that we have to face as a company.
As part of the energy-intensive industry, we are aware of our special responsibility and therefore work uncompromisingly on solutions that not only comply with the legal requirements, but also fall below them wherever possible.

Some things are easy for us, such as the reduction and reuse of resources.
The production principle of an iron foundry with up to 100% recyclable raw and other materials is in line with the ideal of a circular economy for a long time.

Others, such as the intensive use of energy to operate our cupola furnace, are virtually without alternative according to the current state of the art.
Many people are not aware that it is not just a matter of melting the iron in the furnace using heat.
The special feature is the metallurgical processes that are made possible by the addition of carbon (foundry coke).
The cast iron produced in this way is far superior in quality to conventional iron and is indispensable for many applications.
Even low-grade scrap is not disposed of, but recycled into high-quality materials thanks to the way the cupola furnace works, thus reducing the burden on the environment.

Targeted action

Our environmental management has long been certified in accordance with DIN 14001.
Regular monitoring audits guarantee and document compliance with environmental protection measures for our employees, business partners and the general public.
We pay attention to sustainable and environmentally conscious action and expect the same from our partners.

Our energy management is also certified; DIN 50001 applies here.
Our energy consumption and efficiency improvements are therefore subject to constant monitoring.
We strive to consistently reduce our energy requirements – and thus our CO2 emissions – and replace them as far as possible with renewable, CO2-neutral forms of energy.

Our production processes are certified in accordance with the IATF quality standards of the automotive industry.
A key criterion of this certificate is our consistent zero-defect strategy.
We also see this as actively practicing sustainability – after all, every defect-free part we produce helps to conserve resources.

As a further development of our quality management, we are striving for EMAS certification.

We meet the expectations of our financiers with regard to environment, social and governance.
Active environmental and resource protection, social and ethical HR policies and value-based corporate governance are part of our daily work and are firmly anchored in our ESG criteria.

Shaping the future

We see the complete decarbonization of our company as one of the key issues for the future.
We are therefore working intensively on the technical possibilities for saving energy, using waste heat, capturing CO2 and researching the possibilities of substituting CO2-containing raw materials with emission-free alternatives.

As a member of the eFuel Alliance, we are committed to the research, production and distribution of CO2-free, synthetic fuels.

After a successful test phase, we have upgraded our internal fleet to HVO100 as a replacement for conventional diesel.
This enables us to achieve annual savings of around 1,600 tons of CO2.

Many things can be implemented quickly and without great effort, while others require extensive pre-planning and a corresponding investment volume and are only available to the public afterwards.
Our environment can always be sure – we always use the best available technology.
This is also what we mean by sustainability.
